Bilateral cooperation programmes was the highlight of the discussion between Public Security Minister, Mr. Khemraj Ramjattan, and newly accredited Chile Ambassador to Guyana, Patricio Becker. The two recently met at the Minister’s Brickdam, Georgetown office.

His Excellency, Patricio was accredited as the second Resident Ambassador of Chile to Guyana on October 10, 2018. Guyana and Chile established diplomatic relations on July 22, 1971.

Moreover, the Security Minster and the Ambassador, during the recent formal meeting, discussed cooperation programmes in the security sector under the Bilateral Agreements between Guyana and Chile.

The cordial meeting expanded on Guyana’s emerging position in the Oil and Gas Industry and the globalising effect of migrants crossing Guyana’s border from neighbouring states. To this end, Minister Ramjattan and Ambassador Becker discussed the Bilateral Cooperation programmes for Spanish training to be extended to Officers in the Guyana Police Force. This is to enhance Officers’ bilingual skills in carrying out their duties in their interaction with the influx of migrants in Guyana. The two sides also referenced Guyana and Chile Open Skies/Air Services Agreement (2016), which was entered into force on May 11, 2018, in areas of mutual interest.

Minister Ramjattan welcomed the newly accredited Ambassador to Guyana and said that he looks forward to continued collaboration with the Embassy of Chile in the Bilateral Cooperation programmes.
