The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Honourable Aloysio Nunes Ferreira Filho, is expected to visit Guyana tomorrow [July 12th, 2018].
During the visit, the Foreign Minister is expected to pay a courtesy call on President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, His Excellency Brigadier (Ret’d) David Granger. Minister Filho will also meet with Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Carl B. Greenidge, to discuss mutual areas of interest relating to the bilateral agenda.
Guyana and Brazil established diplomatic relations in 1968 and continue to share strong relations. The two countries often collaborate on trade, health, agriculture, and technical cooperation, among a number of areas. Additionally, Guyana and Brazil have collaborated to develop a link between Linden and Lethem. Following the signing on December 21, 2017 of a Complementary Agreement to the memorandum of understanding (MOU), which created the Joint Commission for the Development of Infrastructure Projects, Guyana and Brazil established a Transportation Technical Committee tasked with assessing several facets of the pavement of the Mabura- Lethem phase of the road project.
This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
