Namilco continues to raise the bar… Excels in locally produced health foods

Prior to the incorporation of the National Milling Company of Guyana Inc. (NAMILCO) in 1969, a subsidiary of Seaboard Corporation of the USA, Guyana imported flour from various suppliers.

NAMILCO was officially opened on May 17, 1969 by the then Prime Minister, Forbes Burnham.

The company, henceforth, commenced its operations to fulfill its mission of satisfying customers’ needs. The National Milling Company of Guyana, in its dedication to achieving excellence and industry leadership through the manufacturing of quality products, has embarked over the years on the manufacturing and distribution of superior health foods as a means of catering to the ever growing market of the health conscious.

According to officials of the company, included in NAMILCO’s mission to continued excellence and further growth are plans to expand its production in keeping with health and fitness trends.

It is also working feverishly in the fight against major health issues as a result of unhealthy diet practices and is partnering with the Ministry of Health at health fairs and other activities.

NAMILCO recently received their GOLD MANUFACTURE AWARD for Quality (large Business Category) from the Guyana National Bureau of Standards – National Quality Awards 2017.

Additionally, NAMILCO has been ISO 9001 certified for over eight years and recently received YUM certification to supply KFC and Pizza Hut, not only in Guyana, but throughout the Caribbean and elsewhere.

This has further raised the bar on quality and consistency of its varied product line, which include Pholourie Quick Mix, Multigrain, Toasted Wheat Germ, Wheat Up, Creamed Wheat Up, Whole Wheat, Self Rising Flour and Roti Mix, all in the Maid Marian Range of Products.

 

SOME OF THE HEALTH FOODS WHICH NAMILCO HAS EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS ON ARE:

Toasted Wheat Germ – This product is considered one of the top 10 Healthiest Foods which carries a nutty, slightly sweet flavour. It can be deliciously sprinkled over foods such as cereals, yoghurt, salads, soups, vegetables and desserts and added to casseroles, bread, pastries, scones and crumbles recipes.

Whole Wheat Flour – As an essential part of a healthy diet, this product is made from all three parts of the wheat grain – the bran, germ and endosperm. This flour contains beneficial phytochemicals and antioxidants and is a good source of vitamins B, E, magnesium, iron and fibre.

Multigrain Flour – This is a combination of wheat flour and 8 highly nutritional grains namely wheat, rye, corn, barley, oats, sesame, millet and flax. This blend of grains gives a hearty texture and adds taste to recipes, especially baked foods.

Creamed Wheat-Up – This product is formulated as an intro to solids foods for infants and toddlers and is made from the best part of the wheat for a smooth and creamy taste.
