Meetings of Council of Legal Education in Guyana next month

The Government of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana in collaboration with the Council of Legal Education (CLE) will be hosting meetings of the Executive Committee and Council of Legal Education for the fifth time in Guyana. These meetings were held here during the years 1975, 1981, 1987 and 1994, respectively.

The meetings will be attended by the Chairman of the CLE, a representative of the Caribbean Court of Justice, Attorneys General, Chief Justices from Caricom Member States, Members of the Bar Association, Principals of the three (3) Law Schools located in Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica and the Bahamas. Sixty participants are confirmed to attend the meetings which are scheduled to take place at the Guyana Marriott Hotel with effect from September 6-8, 2018.  A series of activities will be conducted during this period.

On September 06, 2018, a Special Meeting of the Executive Committee will be held at 9:30 hours at the Marriott.  Members of this committee are the CLE Chairman, Attorneys General and Principals of the Law Schools.   During the evening at 19:00 hours, Dr. The Honourable Lloyd Barnett OJ Lecture Series will be conducted and the Honourable Justice Duke Pollard former Judge of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) is scheduled to deliver a presentation among other presenters.

On September 07, 2018, the Meeting of the Council of Legal Education will be held at 9:30 hours.  His Excellency President David Arthur Granger will address the opening of this Meeting.  The Honorable Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Mr. Basil Williams, SC., MP, as the host Attorney General will deliver welcome remarks and Mr. Reginald T.A Armour, SC, Chairman of the Council of Legal Education is also expected to deliver remarks.

Additionally, on the evening of September 07, the Honourable Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs will host a Reception and Cultural event at the Umana Yana at 19:00 hours in honour of the participants.

The Council of Legal Education Meeting will continue on September 08, 2018.  The general objective of these meetings is to place emphasis on the law schools and how they relate to the Caribbean community.
