Race walking poised to become major in Guyana

Guyanese Race Walkers will join their counterparts from the Caribbean and Suriname to compete for honours when the Cavaliers sports and Tour Club stage its 14th Race Walk Month of activities during August being held under the theme ‘Race- Walking in a Modern and Safe Guyana.

Coordinator of the CS&TC Ms Jennifer Major said that this year’s activities will be bigger and better with more events being held in all 10 Regions of the country.

Activities planned for the month long program will include the club’s annual Junior’s Race Walk Camp, Race Walk Workshops and an exhibitions as well as an Award Ceremony.

Meanwhile Coordinator, Ms. Major has said that Race Walking can become one of the major sports in Guyana with a little more support and assistance.

In Guyana Race- Walking are far down the list of prominent sports disciplines, but has a remarkable record of success over the past ten years ‘she added’

According to the CSTC coordinator race walking is not only a healthy sport, but is a virtual necessity because as we grow older we tend to become less active and so we need some periods of exercise.

She expressed that the CS&TC stands ready and committed to push the sport while it becomes a major part of the sporting landscape.
