MINISTRY OF SOCIAL PROTECTION BRINGS CHRISTMAS TO THE ELDERLY
Senior citizens of Guyana experienced an auspicious occasion when Guyana Women’s Leadership Institute hosted its inaugural senior citizens party. These persons came from several communities around Georgetown to enjoy this event. At the event, they were treated with Christmas gifts and food hampers and was able to socialize with persons they knew and new individuals. The folks enjoyed dancing and singing and having fun among themselves as they get together to celebrate Christmas. The GWLI team added more joy to their lives by inviting Guyanese Soca Queen Michelle ‘Big Red’ King thereby, adding more to their Christmas Spirit.
According to the chairperson of GWLI’s Board this event was orchestrated to engage the elderly in reminiscing on past events as such and to remind them that they have not been forgotten. This is so since senior citizens would have made an effort to contribute to the development of the economy and they should be treated with the love and care they deserve. This event is the first of its kind and plans are to make it an annual event so as to encourage the feeling of appreciation and love with the senior citizens of Guyana. As a result, the joy of Christmas will continue to spread among them.
