World Food Day Observations

World Food Day was held on Sunday, October 16th, 2016.

In commemoration of the day, the Ministry of Agriculture along with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization held their annual World Food Day Exhibition and Fair at the Mahaicony Community Canter Ground, Mahaicony. Food security is one of the biggest challenges in the world of climate change, as such World Food Day 2016 was celebrated under the theme “Climate is changing: Food and Agriculture must too.”

The World Food Day Exhibition and Fair included participants such as those from The National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA), the Guyana Livestock Development Authority (GLDA), the National Agriculture Research and Extension Institute (NAREI), the Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA), the Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB), the Guyana Marketing Corporation (GMC), the Pesticide and Toxic Chemicals Control Board (PTCCB), the Guyana Sugar Corporation, the Hydrometeorological Service, the Fisheries Department, Mahaica/Mahaicony/Abary-Agricultural Development Authority and several other agro-processors and organisations related to the agriculture sector. Each placing emphasis that with climate change, agriculture must also change to ensure food security.
