A ceremony to mark the start of the 57th Schools’ Athletic, Swimming and Cycling Championship was yesterday held by the Guyana Teachers Union [GTU] in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
The event which will continue for the next five days is being held at the Leonora Synthetic Track.
The opening ceremony was laced with ceremonial speeches from Ministers of Education, Ms Nicolette Henry; Minister of Social Cohesion, Dr. George Norton; GTU General Secretary, Ms. Coretta McDonald and Regional Executive Officer, Mr. Denis Jaikkaran.
This is the first year that Schools Championship is being held at the Region Three ground and officials were eager to highlight this fact.
The Championship will see students and teachers from across the various education districts competing for various championship titles.
