A two-day workshop on housekeeping with 25 Airport Custodians came to an end on Wednesday. The workshop was held by the Cheddi Jagan International Airport Corporation in collaboration with the Guyana Tourism Authority. The Workshop, held in the Airport’s Boardroom, with facilitator Susan Issacs, focused on international cleaning procedures and practices and customer service in keeping with the Airport management’s mandate to maintain a high quality of standard and service it provides to airport users. Participants were also briefed on how to use the cleaning equipment correctly and safely; proper usage of cleaning agents and chemicals; ways to handle conflicts with airport users and practice basic communication etiquette.
Cognizant of the fact that cleanliness is key to the airport operations, Ramesh Ghir, Chief Executive Officer, in delivering opening remarks underscored how critical the Custodians’ role is within the airport’s operations. “First impression counts and you must see yourself as ambassadors not only of the airport but the country at large; give of your best at all times and take pride in what you do,” he declared to the Custodians. The workshop is a series of programmes earmarked for the Custodians for the year.
Michelle Clarke, a Custodian Supervisor, found the workshop to be uplifting, “I thought it was just going to be about cleaning, but it was more than that. It reinforced my commitment to the job.” Marika Dawson, employed as a Custodian for over a year, revealed “it was an excellent workshop and I can’t wait to learn more in the future.” Following this successful collaboration with GTA, plans are in the making for workshops to be held with the Taxi Drivers and Red Cap operators next month.
