The curtains of the Bakewell Junior Tournament came down over the week and the closing ceremony wrapped up the highest junior competition on the GLTA’s calendar.
Jeremiah Kalekyezi defeated his rival Vadeanand Resaul in the U12 final 6/3, 6/3. He made his way to the finals by defeating Wayne Baker 6/1, 6/1 while Resaul secured a close semi-final win over Nigel Lowe 6/4, 7/5 (10/6).
Brothers, Jeremiah and Joshua Kalekyezi, faced off in the finals of the boys U14 but Joshua was defeated 6/2, 6/1. He won commandingly against Adesh Khayyam 6/1, 6/1 in the quarterfinal and Viraj Sharma 6/2, 6/0 in the semifinal. Resaul defeated Wayne Baker 6/6(7/4), 6/4 but was edged out in the semifinal 2/6, 6/4 (10/3) to Jeremiah Kalekyezi.
U14 Sarah Klautky made it pass Nathalie Ramdyhan 6/1, 6/0 to get to the finas after Alana Chung got an unexpected tussle from Akilah Jones but secured the game 7/5, 6/2. Klautky reigned victoriously with a 6/1, 6/2.
The U18 boys had many heated matches with thrilling moments. It was evident that the desire for the title was high. Heimraj Resaul was crowned the champion after a close battle against Jordan Beaton. The score line was 2/6, 6/4 (10/8). Beaton had a fierce contest against Mark McDonald and was able to win at 7/5, 6/4.
At the closing of the Bakewell Junior Tournament, Mr. Jacob Nanan representative of Bakewell expressed his satisfaction at the level of competition this year and will like to see continuous growth.
President Jamal Goodluck was also happy with the level of competition given the limitation of quality spaces to play. GBTI and President’s College are to be thanked for having their courts available for practice and play. He highlighted the improvement of the competition and the children as the gear up for the Inter-Guiana Games.
The final results were: Boys U12 Jeremiah Kalekyezi (winner) and Vadeanand Resaul (runner-up), Girls U12 Akilah Jones (winner) and Amba Persuad (runner-up), Boys U14 Joshua Kalekyezi (winner) and Jeremiah Kalekyezi (runner-up), Girls U14 Sarah Klautky (winner) and Alana Chung (runner-up), Boys U18 Heimraj Resaul (winner) and Jordan Beaton (runner-up), Girls U18 Afruica Gentle (winner) and Kalyca Fraser (runner-up).
