Caribbean-wide transformation of education being recommended

If youths are to be ready for future employment, especially in the radically changing technological world, there is need for a complete transformation of the education system across the Caribbean. At least this has been the findings of yielded from a collaborative effort between Caricom’s Commission of Human Development, the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States [OECS] and the Caribbean Examination Council [CXC].

The revelation was forthcoming during a media briefing on the sidelines of Caricom’s 38th Heads of Government Conference in Grenada. Speaking at the forum that included OECS’s Director, Dr. Didacus Jules; CXC Registrar, Mr. Glenroy Cumberbatch, Chairman of the Human Development Commission, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education of St. Kitts and Nevis, Shawn Richards, said that the findings have been enlightening.

According to Richards, the issue is to build regional resilience from economic, social, technological and environmental standpoints. He added that regional changes in climate change and Information Communication Technology [ICT] must be taken into consideration.

According to Dr. Jules the Human Resource 2030 Strategy makes it clear that education needs to be seen in its full amplitude. He added people have to be empowered with education and it must be seen in the context of developing a whole person.

But the CXC Registrar, Cumberbatch, underscored that learning must be made fun and school structures changed to accommodate the recommended transformation of education.
