Thirty Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) customers countrywide have a chance to win General and VIP tickets to several Guyana Carnival events as the utility today, May 4, 2018 launched its ‘Sweet 16’ Anniversary promotion as a part of its 16th Anniversary celebrations this month.
The promotion, which is opened to domestic customers only and runsfrom May 7-23, is possible through a partnership between the utility and Hits and Jams Entertainment and sees GWI as an official sponsor of Guyana Carnival 2018.
Customers who clear outstanding balances totalling GYD$5,000 and below GYD$15,000, will be entered into a draw to become eligible to win a general admission ticket to one of the following events: Stink & Dutty Jouvert (moving Jouvert), Tribe Ignite and ‘Destraction.’
Customers who clear outstanding balances totalling GYD$15,000 and above, will be entered into a draw to become eligible to win a VIP ticket to ‘Revelnation.’
There will be weekly draws leading up to the events during the month of May and winners will be announced via GWI’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages. Additionally, customers will be contacted individually.
Speaking at the launch of the promotion, which was held at the utility’s head office in Georgetown, GWI’s Managing Director, Dr. Richard Van West-Charles said that the partnership comes at an opportune time and encourages customers to clear their outstanding balances.
According to him, the partnership with Hits and Jams Entertainment is aimed at ensuring that Guyanese are ready to participate in Guyana Carnival and that they also remember GWI as they spend during this period.
The 30th May, 2018 marks 16 Years since the Guyana Sewerage and Water commission (GS&WC) and the Guyana Water Authority (GUYWA) were merged to form GWI. The promotion is GWI’s way of giving back to its customers.
Dr. Van West-Charles took the opportunity to encourage customers who have outstanding balances dating as far back as 2015 to settle these balances by the end of October, 2018, or their services will be completely removed.
He noted that GWI is taking an approach which sees the utility working along with its customers and encouraging them to pay what is owed to the company.
Meanwhile, GWI’s Customer Relations Manager, Mrs. Andrea Khan in her remarks pointed out that the utility hopes that this year will be one to remember as well as a year of many firsts, as she alluded to individuals’ celebrations of their ‘Sweet 16.’
She further explained that it will be a year to remember as it will see the company further improving the services provided to its valued customers as well as a year of any firsts, such as first time access to potable water in many more communities.
Mrs. Khan urged customers to take advantage of the opportunity by paying their bills to avoid disconnection and at the same time having a chance to win tickets to the Guyana Carnival events identified by GWI.
Chairman of the Guyana Carnival Committee, Mr. Bobby Vieira, expressed gratitude to GWI for coming on board and urged that the company will not be disappointed.
Guyana Carnival, he pointed out, is a celebration of Guyana’s attainment of independence and the committee’s aim is to first and foremost ensure that the local economy benefits to the maximum. Additionally, he noted, the events will also promote and boost Guyana’s Tourism potential.
According to him, over 3000 persons will be vising Guyana for Carnival inclusive of Guyanese in the diaspora and carnival chasers, and they are hoping to put Guyana on the world stage as another world carnival destination
Director of Hits and Jams Entertainment, Mr. Kerwin Bollers also expressed gratitude to GWI for coming on board for Guyana Carnival, which runs during the period of May 18-27.
He praised GWI for its continued efforts, particularly those geared towards ensuring that customers have easier access to information on their bills, among other things.
