Chicken shawarma, the Mediterranean way

Written by

It was oozing melted cheese with each bite, and the flavourful grilled chicken brought on the exaggerated sensation, and perhaps unfair deduction, that it was too good to be local.
Yes it was a love affair between a mouth and a very succulent shawarma chicken wrap which lasted all but 20 minutes.
This delicacy was acquired and devoured within the cozy setting of the 271 Thomas Street, Georgetown M. Delight Restaurant which caters to those with a crave for Mediterranean foods.
Shawarma [pronouced shawurma] can be made from various meats including beef, lamb, turkey or of course chicken or a combination of these.

A glass of lime juice and a succulent chicken shawarma wrap from M. Delight.

The meat is left to grill on a spit sometimes for as long as a day to ensure that it is cooked just right. The spit in this case is a slender pointed rod that keeps the meat suspended over a fire.
At M. Delight the meat of choice for the shawarma is usually chicken which is served with barbecued rice, a side of vegetables and a spicy sauce or in a wrap (soft flatbread) laced with french fries and loads of cheese.
Now the latter would intrigue just about anyone especially since it is customary to add vegetables instead to the shawarma wrap.
It certainly did not disappoint, well except for the fact that the number of french fries amounted to the number of fingers on one hand without including the thumb. But maybe that was all that was required to bring out the scrumptious taste that encourages several repeat visits to this eccentric but very alluring restaurant to sample more of its signature shawarma and some of its other intriguing delicacies which are prepared by certified Syrian chefs.
If you are hoping to visit this little eating house for its shawarma though, it is recommended that you wash it down with a glass of lime juice. Yes lime juice! You will find that the tangy taste of the simple beverage offered there does wonders for the taste buds after devouring that six inches of tastefulness.
