The annual Courts Christmas Tree Light Up has over the years become a family tradition since it is known to attract a number of families. But along with this the mega-store massive tree light-up has been its Light Up Concert held at six of its stores across the country.
The largest of these concerts is held in front of its Main Street, Georgetown store and is attended by members of government and other dignitaries and usually signals the beginning of the Christmas season in Guyana.
Every year Courts usually shortlists some of the best local singers and other acts for the concert and would receive numerous requests from other upcoming artistes who would also like to perform on the Courts Light Up stage in order to gain recognition.
It is on this note, along with the desire to bring newer and fresher talent to the Light Up stage yearly that Courts has embarked on a song competition via social media.
“It is our hope that the individual or individuals who win will become the next ‘big thing’ in Guyana through the exposure that they will receive from our productions,” Courts Guyana has announced. The winner will receive $200,000 cash and the opportunity to be on tour with Courts across Guyana as the company spreads Christmas cheer.
This year the participants are required to upload their best Eddy Grant cover to their Facebook page with the hash tags #CourtsLightUp and #CourtsCastingCall to be a part of the competition. The five persons with the most votes will be called to sing live before the Courts judges for the winner to be selected. Further details about the rules are available on the Courts Facebook page. The final day for entry is October 17, 2017.
The previous winners were Jevonah Chester and Ronnel Gonsalves, and Melissa Vandeyar.
