The Ministry of Education is not leaving to chance students’ performance at the 2018 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate [CSEC] examination.
Moreover, the Ministry decided to have students in Grade 11 (Form 5), who are slated to write CSEC this year, participate in an English and Mathematics Diagnosis Examination.
Diagnosis exams were done on Wednesday and Thursday last.
The exams were prepared by the Ministry and were designed to cover the content that should have already been taught to students.
It is expected that teachers for the two subjects areas will utilise the results from exams to effectively re-teach and give students practice exercises that will aid in the mastery of content. The teachers who were tasked with marking the examination scripts were furnished with the relevant mark schemes for each subject area.
Both exams were treated as national assessments and were therefore administered as per timetable under strict examination conditions. Immediately after the assessments, the scripts were expected to be marked at each school by a pool of markers using the mark schemes provided.
