Demerara Shipping Company celebrates milestone by giving back

Demerara Shipping Company Limited (DSCL) kicked off this milestone by hosting a blood drive and donating hampers to the mothers at West Demerara Regional Hospital Maternity Ward. These initiatives are just a few to jumpstart this event as DSCL has a series of activities are planned for this year.

The blood drive attracted employees, customers and members of the business community within the vicinity of the company. The Director of National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS), Dr. Pedro Lewis, highlighted that National Blood Bank is grateful for this initiative as he mentioned that one pint of blood can save three lives. Dr. Lewis applauded DSCL and encourages corporate Guyana to come on board too as the dire need for blood is acknowledged. He also mentioned that members of the public who wish to donate must weigh over 110lbs, must have Haemoglobin (Hb) that is more than 12.5, and must not be suffering from cold or flu at the time of donating. Blood donors are eligible to donate every two months.

Mothers of West Demerara Regional Hospital Maternity Ward were surprisedas the representatives from DSCL arrived with hampers. Their faces were lit up with smiles as DSCL’s Marketing Coordinator; Devica Jhagdeo handed over the hampers. Regional Health Officer; Johnaton Dudhnauth expressed his gratitude for items donated and he also mentioned that he was elated that DSCL chose to donate to the mothers of the ward.

Marketing Coordinator; Devica Jhagdeo stated that at Demerara Shipping Company Limited (DSCL), they are committed to being a good corporate citizen and what held the greatest meaning to her and the team was adding value to lives of those in need.
