The passing of renowned vexillologist, Whitney Smith has come with sadness for the citizens of Guyana. He was the designer of one of our most important symbol of nationhood, our national flag, the Golden Arrowhead. He was a US citizen, professional vexillologist and flag scholar. Smith had designed our national flag in 1960, 6 years before we gained independence while he was a political science graduate at the Harvard Universitry.
Smith passed away last Thursday in Massachusetts at the age of 76.
