The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC), held a pre-Diwali event in which a number of students from various schools participated by singing religious songs, completing a few pieces of the colourful “Rangolis” and lighting the symbolic Diya.
In her address to the gathering, Commissioner Rajkumarie Singh, noted that the meaning of Diwali, though associated with the triumph of light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance, also serves to improve the social fabric of the society.
She reminded that the occasion encourages harmonious and peaceful relationships from siblings in the home to the neighbourhood and villages of all Guyanese.
Staff of the ERC were also fittingly attired to mark the occasion.
