ERC STILL PROBING GECOM’S HIRING PRACTICES
An investigation on GECOM’s hiring practices through an inquiry is said to come to an end before the year is out. Retired Judge and Senior Counsel (SC) Stanley Moore was hired to probe the employment practices at GECOM along with two others. They were given three weeks to complete the investigation but it was extended as the probe widened. This inquiry came about after a letter of complaint was sent to ERC concerning ethnic imbalance and hiring practices at the commission. A meeting was then hosted to discuss those matters in detail. Retired Justice James Patterson contended that individuals were hired based on the best qualifications and not necessarily race of which are deliberate efforts are made to achieve such.
The ERC is a constitutional body developed to promote harmonious ethnic relations, deal with complaints and ensuring diversity in the workforce.
