The Sunday afternoon fiery uprising at the Georgetown Prison, which allowed for the escape of about five inmates and has left the Lot 12 Camp Street almost flattened, has left in its wake officials desperately trying to relocate hundred of prisoners. However this ordeal has also affected the smooth operation of several businesses in the capital city.
In fact some of them have kept their doors closed.
Among them is the Camp Street, Georgetown operation of the National Insurance Scheme [NIS]. NIS in a notice said that “Employers are hereby notified that due to the current situation at the Camp Street prison, the NIS Office situated at Camp and Bent Streets will remain closed until further notice.”
Moreover, employers wishing to make contribution payments or conduct any other financial transaction can do so at the company’s Brickdam and Winterplace, Georgetown head office.
“NIS regrets any inconvenience caused and wishes to thank you for your patience and understanding in this situation,” NIS said in a notice which also adds that contribution records can also be uplifted at the head office.
Contributions for the month of June are due and payable on or before July 15, 2017.
