Approximately 37 children between the ages of seven to 17 years were catered to when the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Limited (GBTI Ltd) – Providence Branch hosted a feeding and storytelling programme at the 13 Public Road, Ruimveldt, Georgetown Ruimveldt Children Aid Centre.
The event, which was held on Saturday October, 7 2017, was facilitated by for. Mrs Desiree Edgehill of Artistes in Direct Support. Edgehill facilitated the storytelling session which included a brief health talk and she also shared with the older group on Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) using charts and illustrations. Her discussion with them was very interactive and vibrant, with lots of positive and interesting responses from the children.
Meanwhile, the younger group was exposed to sessions on “Emotions”. They were told of ways that they could control certain emotions and convert same positively. The sessions proved to be both educational and beneficial to the children. They were also afforded a sumptuous meal.
The Providence Branch Manager, Ms Melanie Emerson, in her remarks said that the reason for hosting this event was to reach out to the children in that community and especially the children at the Ruimveldt Children Aid Centre.
Because children are viewed as the nation’s future generation, GBTI has noted that any investment in them is an investment in Guyana’s future. As such by investing in literacy sessions such as this, it is just one of the ways that the Bank has recognized as means to give back to the community and help in ensuring a brighter future for Guyana.
