Some 70 persons recently benefited from dental care, blood pressure and blood sugar testing provided by health workers attached to the Cheddi Jagan Dental Centre and the Regional Health Services (RHS) Department.
This was realised through strategic collaboration between the Guyana National Shipping Corporations Limited (GNSC) and the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) last Wednesday to host a medical outreach for its employees at their Lombard Street, La Penitence location.

During this collaborative move the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) received nine units of blood.
Renne Chester, Marketing Manager of the GNSC, noted that the Month of April has always been very exciting for the staff. This year they are again expected to participate in number of activities planned in observance of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Month.
He thanked the Public Health Ministry for collaborating with the GNSC over the years and explained the importance of having a healthy life and healthy body.

“Of course many persons would know that as part of your work life you need to be healthy in order to be effective and efficient at your job and as a company we need to ensure that systems are in place to be able to foster that healthy relation,” Chester said.
Chester said that on March 21, the GNSC lifted there OSH banner at the company’s building, signalling the beginning of occupation safety and health month. He said two employees who are also peer educators volunteered their time and have offered health educational talks on Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) to students of the Brickdam Secondary School in keeping with the month’s observances.
The CARICOM Secretariat employees also benefited from a similar collaboration with the Ministry on Wednesday in observance of Administrative Professional Week. Approximately 55 employees of the Regional body had their blood pressure (BP) tested.
The BP testing was conducted by a health care volunteer, Safia Shaw, a Dentex attached to Perfect Smiles Clinic.
