A Cancer Warrior is “someone who is fighting or has lost their life or the life of someone they love to Cancer.” As such the spirit of resilience, the determination to fight and win, hope, and the need for greater awareness were all highlighted when GTT hosted its inaugural first ever Pinktober Benefit Dinner. The event was held on Wednesday 17, to help raise funds for the work of the Guyana Cancer Foundation. The event was held in the Kokomo Room at Palm Court.
The event which was supported by the private and Government sectors, the Diplomatic community and individual influencers, provided an opportunity for GTT Cancer Warriors to tell their stories of diagnosis, treatment and their spirited fight.
GTT Cancer Warrior Anjuli Beharry told those gathered about the fears she felt when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013 and the decision she made to have a double mastectomy following her diagnosis. “I felt that I will not live to see my children and grandchildren grow up”, said Ms. Beharry.
She “applauded GTT” for the initiatives taken to raise funds which are needed to support the fight against cancer and encouraged women to “trust your body and instinct and get screened.”
In brief remarks at the event GTT’s, CEO, Justin Nedd reminded that “together we can make a difference”, which is the theme of this years’ breast cancer awareness observances.
“GTT is doing more for Guyana through culture, community involvement and products,” Nedd said.
He expressed GTT’s pleasure in joining with the Guyana Cancer Foundation in the work they are doing in the fight against cancer. He also expressed thanks to those who supported the purchase of tickets for the dinner since each ticket purchased could save the lives of two women and called on everyone to help raise awareness about cancer.
Five of GTT Cancer Warriors Anjuli Beharry, Marilyn Dewar, Mitzy Campbelle, Rosaline Clarke, Leslie Black and Bibi Hassan who are either afflicted or affected were honoured at the event.
Pinktober is a month long campaign that began what is hoped to be a long term relationship with the Guyana Cancer Foundation where we give an exclusive opportunity to every GTT customer, not just to donate to the cause of Breast and other Cancers but to actively participate in bringing awareness about Cancer in all its forms but to also celebrate life and what it means to be a GTT warrior.
GTT invites the public to join in the fight through the purchase of the Pinktober Special for $2,000 dollars. The package gives the great opportunity of making a $500 donation to the Guyana Cancer Foundation, a Pinktober 5k/10k Walk Run T-shirt, Free Group Fitness Training before the Pinktober 5k/10k Walk/Run on October 21, an entry to participate in the inaugural Pinktober 5k/10k walk/run, three day mobile data plan, one ticket to the best dancehall concert featuring Qqor one ticket to the best gospel concert featuring Travis Green on November 3 or one ticket to the best reggae concert featuring Chronixx on November 18.
