851 candidate from 9 Secondary Schools and Four Private institutions sat the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) in May – June of 2017.
Guyana achieved a 92.57% pass rate with Grades 1- 5, against 86.74%, an increase of 7%.
16.47% of the entries attained Grade 1,
22.90% attained Grade 2,
22.93 attained Grade 3,
18.08 attained Grade 4
while 13% of the students attained Grade 5.
Top performers
Several candidates recorded outstanding performances at this year’s Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE). Among the top performers are Shawn Shewram of St Rose’s High and Vamanadev Hiralall of Saraswati Vidya Niketan who secured Grade One passes in eight units:

New Subjects and First Time Offerings for 2017
Green Engineering was written for the first time of which a 100% pass rate was attained.
Animation & Gaming Design was also a new subject this year and was written for the first time electronically along with Digital Media which also attained a 100% pass rate.
The Ministry of Education is informing CAPE students that they will be able to access their official individual results on Friday, August 18, 2017 online at http://results.cxc.org.
It was disclosed today by the Caribbean Examination Council that CSEC results will be released to member states before close of business on Thursday, August 17, 2017.
