Earlier this week, High Commissioner of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Mr. Frederick Hamley Case, met the Prime Minister of Malaysia, the Honourable Mr. Mahathir Mohamad at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, London, UK.
During the meeting, they discussed Guyana’s territorial sovereignty and its future as it related to the oil and gas industry. As Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Dr. Mohamad is the Chairman of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), the state-owned oil and gas company.
Guyana and Malaysia established formal diplomatic relations on April 26, 1976, and relations continue to be cordial.
The two countries have often collaborated at the multilateral level through organizations such as the United Nations, The Commonwealth, the Non-Aligned Movement, and the G-77 and China.
