Our very own Prime Minister and First Vice-President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, Moses V. Nagamootoo has been awarded with the Degree of Doctor of Letter (Honoris Causa) Bharath University. The honour was handed to Mr. Nagamootoo by founder of the university, S. Jagathrakshagan after his address to a gathering of academics at the Bharath University special convocation held at teh Sree Balaji Medical Hospital in Chrompet on Wednesday.
According to Nagamootoo, it was an honour on his first visit to Southern India from where his ancestors migrated to Guyana almost 170 years ago.
In his presence was his wife, Sita Nagamootoo. Adding to this, the PM has disclosed that India has agreed to set up a Centre of Excellence in Information Technology (CEIT) in Guyana. This would come at a cost of US$1M and the main aim is to train approximately 500 Guyanese professionals.
