In an effort to better upgrade and manage water supply systems countrywide, the management of Guyana Water Inc. has seen it necessary to invest in a Technical Report Writing training seminar for technical staff. The engineers within the company are required to visit various communities and water supply systems to identify and analyse technical challenges and make detailed recommendations for improvement.
This training will therefore assist them in acquiring the tools, techniques and skills needed to improve their technical writing skills, which would in turn equip management with the information needed to make decisions.
During the launch of the seminar, GWI’s Managing Director Dr. Richard Van West-Charles told participants that the company’s mission: “To deliver safe, adequate and affordable water and to ensure safe sewerage systems for improved public health and sustainable economic development”, must be the center of their focus during each visit to a community or site. He also noted that the reports submitted become evidence of the finances invested into the upgrade of water services in these communities.
Dr. Van West-Charles added that the reports will serve as institutional knowledge for the organisation as well as for colleagues to gain an understanding of the situation presenting itself at the location of each visit. Technical report writing, he stressed, is a critical function of their duties.
Executive Director of Human Resources Management and Development, Mr. Elvis Jordan encouraged the participants to engage each other and share experiences, while learning to enhance their skills.
The training seminar is being facilitated by Dr. Clifton Inniss of Inniss Engineering Services. Approximately 23 engineers and other technical staff are benefitting from this program which has a duration of 24 contact hours, broken down to eight sessions of three hours each. A test will be conducted at the commencement and at the end of the training to assess the level of work learned.
