Health Tip: Drink water to lose weight?

Written by

Its sounds pretty farfetched, a joke even. But according to Dr Michael Smith for WebMD [webmd.com/diet/features/6-reasons-to-drink-water#1], drinking water can in fact help you to lose weight. Believe that!

He too says, “It sounds too good to be true.” But he assured that by just drinking more water it can indeed help you lose weight. This, according to him, has been verified by research. He explained that by drinking as little as one percent more water means you will eat fewer calories and also benefit from a drop in saturated fat, sugar, sodium and cholesterol.

“One extra cup of water in a day will save you 68 calories and you don’t have to do this every day to get the savings. Drink three extra cups and you will cut your calories intake by 205,” he revealed.

To put this into perspective that is as many calories as if you walk two and a half miles, Dr. Smith explained.

But he cautioned, “You can’t just lie around on the couch all day and chug a gallon of water instead. You still need to keep up those healthy habits.”

He however noted that the known benefits of drinking more than three additional cups of water will be you spending a lot more time in the bathroom.

According to him, too, taking advantage of water to help lose weight doesn’t mean you can eat more but rather you are more likely to eat less. “So that walk to the water cooler gets you a lot further than you thought.”
