How To Get And Stay Hydrated

Written by

Sure the place seems hot and with everyone having such a busy schedule, there really isn’t much time to be doing much else. Then at the end of the day we’re all left exhausted with some of us even suffering from severe headaches. What if I told you that simply keeping yourself hydrated is all it takes to get more out of your day, end your day feeling better and preventing a multitude of diseases. Water is very important to your body, which is why we’re always advised to drink about 8 glasses per day; and with how busy we get, we even forget to get as much water as we ought to. Here are some tips on how to stay hydrated:

  • Drink as much water one time so that you don’t get thirsty quickly.
  • Monitor your level of hydration and how you lose fluids by checking the colour of your urine. It should be pale yellow and not dark, too smelly or cloudy.
  • If exercising for more than an hour or in extreme heat, supplement your water intake with a sports drink that contains electrolytes and 6-8 per cent carbs.
  • Always start your exercise routine by drinking some amount of fluid, preferably water.
  • Avoid alcohol during the day.
  • Fluids are fluids no matter the form, so consider all things such as tea, coffee, juices, milks, soups, etc. when checking on your fluid intake. (Except alcohol, which is very dehydrating).
  • Consume as much fruits as possible, five cups optimum.
  • Stay out of the sun as much as you can.
  • Make time in your schedule to drink water and never ignore your thirst.
