ILO representatives on special mission…meet with NIS officials

Representatives from the International Labour Organisation [ILO] are currently in Guyana on a special mission. The representatives will be here for the period May 9 – 11, 2017.

The ILO is a United Nations agency dealing with labour problems, particularly international labour standards, social protection, and work opportunities for all.

ILO representatives meeting with NIS Board of Directors

The two member team consists of Mr. Ariel Pino, Social Protection and OHS Specialist, ILO Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean and Mr. Lou Enoff, ILO Consultant from the United States.

The main objective of the mission is to collect information from NIS and the relevant stakeholders with a view to assist NIS, Guyana in developing a strategy to extend social insurance coverage to the self- employed.

The team met with NIS Board members, Senior Management staff, Research and Information Systems Staff, Operations staff which included Benefits and Compliance Staff.

Today, a courtesy call was paid to the Minister of Finance, Mr. Winston Jordan at his office.

The mission delegates will meet with the Small Business Bureau and Deed Registry tomorrow before concluding their visit.
