The Commission of India in Georgetown is currently conducting a Capacity Building Technical Assistance workshop at the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown for CARICOM officials. The workshop, which commenced on, was jointly inaugurated by Ambassador Dr. Manorma Soeknandan, Deputy Secretary General, CARICOM and High Commissioner of India H.E. V. Mahalingam on Monday.
The Capacity Building workshop was organised under the Indian Technical Economic Cooperation and two expert faculty members Mr. Padmin Hasitkant Buch and Mr. Raj Krishnan Shankar from the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Ahmedabad are the lead trainers of the programme.
Twenty-eight officials of the CARICOM Secretariat are participating in the workshop. During the two week workshop, the skills of the officials will be enhanced particularly in the fields of Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation and Strategic Management.
The workshop has been the outcome of the first meeting of the India-CARICOM Joint Commission held in June 2015 in Georgetown and the second India-CARICOM Ministerial meeting held in September 2015 on the margins of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York.
India is also assisting in upgrading the ICT system in the CARICOM Secretariat by providing funding of US$ 2.4 million. Another capacity building programme which is in pipeline is “Training of Young Diplomats of CARICOM” under which 30 officials of CARICOM will travel to India and the programme will be entirely funded by the Government of India.
