Jamun is a popular Guyanese fruit known in some places as the black plum. It is a sunny weather fruit and is associated with many health and medicinal benefits. Jamum’s ployphenolic compounds are also very effective against cancer, heart diseases, diabetes, asthma and arthritis. Little known fact too, jamun seeds are used as an effective in the treatment of acne. You first need to crush the seeds and mix with cow’s milk. After that you simply apply it in the evening and wash it off in the morning. By doing this regularly, those annoying acne breakouts can be easily controlled. For oily skin, a mixture of jamun pulp barley flour, amla juice and rose water is very effective. It is used as a face mask which is washed off when dry. For dark spots, a paste of jamun seed powder, lemon powder, gram flour, almond oil and rose water helps.
Perhaps one of the best medicinal but least known benefits of jamun is its anti-diabetic properties. It works against diabetes and converts sugar into quick energy. The Jamun fruit is excellent for the digestive system because of its coolant properties. It is also rich in iron and so helps with issues pertaining to blood. The presence of vitamin C in the fruit is beneficial for fair skin complexion and strengthening immunity.
