Minister of Social Protection, Amna Ally, made sure there was a smile on the faces of every child as the government’s Christmas toys distribution drive continued in Region 10.
Over 400 little boys and girls received a little bit of the Christmas cheer as toys were distributed to the children in the Kwakwani community.
In addition to the distribution of toys for this festive season, bicycles under President David Granger’s 5Bs initiative were presented; 26 children from the Water Front and Lamp Island communities benefitted from this distribution to ensure more of the nation’s children have the ability to travel, with ease, to and from school, on a weekly basis. Due to the fact that there was a need for more bicycles in these communities a decision was made for the additional bicycles to be distributed; it is important for children to be given the opportunity to learn.
In brief remarks Ally greeted the children on behalf of His Excellency David Granger and took the opportunity to wish them a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous 2018.
Also in attendance were Mr. Rennis Morian, Regional Chairman; Ms. Merna Adrian, NDC Chair and Ms. Sandra Adams, CDC Coordinator – Region 10.
Upon her return to Georgetown Minister Ally joined the children in the West Ruimveldt Community at the West Ruimveldt Wesleyan Church where she distributed more gifts and participated in carol singing.
The government of Guyana continues to distribute toys to the nation’s children during the month of December in an effort to bring not only smiles to faces, but joy to families and communities.
