Main Street to become ‘Carnival Avenue’

Guyana Carnival in collaboration with the Mayor and City Council has introduced ‘Carnival Avenue’ on Main Street. This event will be hosted every Friday from May 4th to May 18th and everyday from the 18th until the ending of Carnival, on May 27th.

The aim is to create an area for locals and foreigners to socialize and for young entrepreneurs and local artists to market their products and services during the highly anticipated Carnival season. The Guyana Carnival Committee has maintained that several stakeholders will benefit from this venture including the Mayor and City Council, beverage companies and craft-persons, local designers, musicians and artists.

A variety of local foods, drinks, arts and crafts will be on display and sold. All of Guyana is invited to come out and enjoy the sound of steel pan music, Tassa drumming, Djembe drumming. Performances by local soca, chutney and calypso artists such as Jomo, Timeka Marshal, Kwasi Ace, Lil Colwin, Big Red, Lil Red, Adrian Dutchin, Treyon Vybz, Lil Million and Brandon Harding. This event starts at 5pm.

Guyana Carnival is slated for 10 days in May from the 18 to the 27th and thousands of visitors are expected to join in the revelry as Guyana celebrates its 52nd Independence anniversary.
