The Guyana Association of Municipalities [GAM] has been invited to participate for the first time in the Commonwealth Local Government Conference 2017 in Valletta, Malta from November 21-24, 2017. The conference will be held under the theme “FIT FOR THE FUTURE: Resources and capacity for effective Local Government”.
At an Executive Committee Meeting of the G.A.M held on Thursday October 12, 2017 Ms. Patricia Chase Green, Mayor of Georgetown and Treasurer of G.A.M was elected to attend the Conference hosted by the Commonwealth Local Government Federation (C.L.G.F) as Guyana’s Representative.
Subsequently, Mr. Carwyn Holland, Mayor of Linden and President of G.A.M was invited by the Caribbean Association of Local Government Authorities (C .A.L.G.A) to represent the Caribbean body at the said Conference. The Mayors will be accompanied by Ms. Sherry Jerrick, Assistant Town Clerk (Georgetown) and Technical Officer to G.A.M.
The Commonwealth Local Government Conference will look at strategies for boosting Local Government’s resource base and capacity to improve performance, governance and service deliver, ensuring it is fit for purpose to meet the demands of the future.
Speakers will include the Prime Minister of Malta, Dr. Joseph Muscat, and Commonwealth Secretary General Rt. Baroness Patricia Scotland Q.C, while G.A.M. President Mayor Holland will be a feature presenter.
