Every License holder for television broadcasting in Guyana has been invited to participate in a very vital Consultation on the procedures and roadmap for Guyana’s imminent transition from Analogue to Digital Terrestrial TV Broadcasting (DTT).
The National Frequency Management Unit (NFMU) will host the Consultation/Workshop on tomorrow [Friday 28th July] at the Guyana Police Force’s Officers Training Center, Camp Rd., Georgetown from 9.00 am.
The opening segment will feature an address by Minister of Public Telecommunications, Catherine Hughes, and local television station owners and representatives of SKAR TV, RCA RBS, Little Rock and CNS Channel 6 among others are expected to attend and participate in discussions on the “Roadmap” to transition. This ‘map’ was drawn up by the NFMU to guide the conversion process which will allow Guyana to catch up and keep up with fast advancing technologies.
NFMU was established in December 1990 as a Public Corporation by way of Order No.79 of 1990, made under The Public Corporations Act 1988 (No. 21 of 1988). Its mission is to efficiently and effectively manage the electromagnetic frequency spectrum and to administer the number resources of Guyana. It is also tasked with being proactive, customer oriented, transparent and keeping abreast with global technological developments in the telecommunications sector, thereby fostering an environment conducive for investment and where the deployment and use of ICTs can be optimized for the social and economic development of Guyana.
