It is getting down close to that time of the year again. It is one of Guyana’s most anticipated holidays, for a number of reasons- Diwali. Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights and one of the most look forward to event that takes place around this holiday is the Annual Diwali Motorcade orchestrated by the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha. Despite rumours of a controversy in the date of the holiday as there was last year, it was agreed that the date for Diwali 2016 will be October 30th. As such, the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha has announced the official dates for the displaying of motorcades. These are as follows:
October 22nd – East Bank Demerara Praant’s motorcade, at the Diamond Market Tarmac.
October 23rd – Canje Ground – East Berbice, Bath Community Centre Ground- West Berbice, Port Mourant Community Centre Ground- Central Corentyne and Tagore High School- Upper Corentyne
October 27th – Essequibo Praant Motorcade, at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground.
October 28th -West Coast Demerara Praant’s motorcade, at the Oceanview Mandir Compound.
The final and largest motorcade will be held on the night of Choti Diwali which is Saturday, October 29th.
The floats are scheduled to leave the Shri Krishna Mandir compound, Campbellville and traverse the Seawall road to the LBI Community Centre Ground, East Coast Demerara. This is also accompanied by a massive cultural show featuring the Dharmic Nritya Sangh and several top Guyanese singers. The Sabha, in collaboration with ZEETV and Digicel, will also for the first time feature entertainment by Saregamapa 2016 winner Kushal Paul and one of the finalist, Jyotica Tangri.
