Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Carl B. Greenidge, this past week met with outgoing Ambassador of the United States of America to the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, His Excellency Perry Holloway.
During the Ambassador’s final courtesy call on Minister Greenidge, he conveyed appreciation for the support both he and the American Embassy received during his tenure.
Minister Greenidge reflected on the valued relationship between the two States and thanked the Ambassador for his contribution to further improvement of bilateral relations.
Guyana and the United States established diplomatic relations on August 15, 1966, and, since then, have continued to maintain strong bilateral relations particularly through national development initiatives.
The United States is a significant trading partner with Guyana. Major imports include machinery, foodstuff, animal feed, petroleum products, chemicals, computers and computer accessories, passenger vehicles, telecommunication equipment, and pharmaceuticals.
Additionally, Guyana has benefitted from assistance in the areas of governance, security, health, education, and economic growth and development among others.
Until Ambassador Holloway’s replacement arrives, current Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. Terry Steeles-Gonzalez will act as Chargé d’Affaires.
