The Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) is collaborating with the Ministry of Natural Resources and other stakeholders in the mining industry to roll out a packed programme of activities in celebration of mining in this year’s Pork-knocker Day observance Sunday August 20, 2017.
The Pork-knocker Day will commence with a warm welcome to the Linden Community by His Worship, the Mayor of Linden, Mr. Carwyn Holland. As the day proceeds, there will be an exhibition which includes science and engineering solutions for safety, sustainability and success in mining to add to the edification of stakeholders in the Mining Sector on the past, present and future.
Pork-knocker Day brings the curtains down on the Mining Week 2017. Pork-knocker’s Day, as usual, showcases the many aspects of the life of small miners as will be seen through competitive activities such as the Warishi Race, Tacouba Crossing Competition, Camp Building and Bahir/cooking Competitions; Shoveling Jigging, Bateling Competitions and Life Saving Mine Rescue Demonstration.
