Two local representatives from the Sathya Sai Baba Organization met with the Minister of Public Health, Volda Lawrence in her office, Lot 1 Brickdam recently to discuss the organisation’s upcoming medical missions slated for early 2018.
Vidya Singh- Ali , Vice Chairman and SuneelTeotia , Project Coordinator engaged the Minster in discussions on the specialised areas of service and care they are likely to bring to the residents in Regions 3,6 & 10 respectively in March of next year. Also present at the meeting was Denroy Tudor, Coordinator of the Ministry of Public Health, International Desk.
Teotia indicated that specialist care will be provided in the areas of urology and fibroids treatment including hysterectomy on the upcoming mission. He said his team is currently working closely with the Regional Health Officers and Medical Superintendent at the West Demerara Regional Hospital, New Amsterdam Hospital and the Linden Hospital Complex in reviewing patient records and putting together a list of persons who can benefit from medical treatment and surgeries.
According to Teotia, the SathyaSai Baba Organization will be collaborating with the National Blood Transfusion Services toorganize a series of blood drive events prior to surgery dates. This he said will be done in an effort to ensure that the hospitals have excess stock of blood and blood products which will be needed for patients who will be admitted for surgeries.
Teotia said thatwhile the overseas medical volunteers from his organisations are eager to perform specialised medical surgeries to those in need, they are also willing to donate much needed items to the public health facilities.
“The organisation in Trinidad is desirous of donating wheel chairs next year. We have donated already donated 100 wheel chairs to hospitals and health centres in Guyana”, Teotia said.
Singh Ali noted that the organisation will continue to support the Ministry by rendering specialist care to those in need.
Meanwhile, the Minister applauded the Organisation’s effort and contributions towards the Guyana’s health sector over the years. She urged them to continue the ‘good work’ while offering her full commitment and support to their upcoming medical mission.
