The practice of Karate has been adopted all over the world and Guyana is no exception. The Association Do Shotokan Karate- Guyana, located at the Young Men Christian Association (YMCA), Thomas Lands, over the years has taught the art of Karate to many of its students including the Guyana Police Force’s Inspector Keith Beaton, better known as Master Keith Beaton.
Inspector Keith Beaton has been practicing Martial Arts for over twenty-eight years. He has won numerous accolades for his outstanding performances and recently competed at the Third International Karate Daigaku which was held in Barbados from August 16-19, 2018, where he copped second place in the individual Male 40-49 category and also second place in the male 40-49 team fighting and secured silver medals in both categories.
Master Keith Beaton said that Karate has impacted his life in a huge way. He said that it has played an important role in his career as a police as it has taught him discipline and also provided him with the skills in unarmed defense and combat, using lesser force.
Inspector Beaton’s goal is to give back to his own and vulnerable groups (woman and children) by teaching the basic skills of self-defense.
