Pupils get tips to prepare for NGSA

Minister of Education, Mr. Rupert Roopnaraine, other officials, engage pupils ahead of last year’s NGSA sitting.

The Ministry of Education has been utilizing social media and text messaging services to issue reminders that will help pupils prepare for the National Grade Six Assessment [NGSA] this week.

The NGSA is designed to assess pupils in order to determine where they will be best suited to complete their secondary studies. The scheduled assessment will be conducted on Wednesday [April 12] and Thursday [April 13].

Pupils will participate in English and Science Papers One and Two on Wednesday and Mathematics and Social Studies Papers One and Two the following day.

The Ministry in an advisory issued by text messaging service today urged that “children should read each question carefully before attempting it. Look out for words such as NOT, EXCEPT or NEVER,” the Ministry urged in its message.

Grade Six pupils were required to sit three mock examinations earlier this year in preparation for the NGSA.

Mathematics has been one of the areas that the pupils have, over the years, been showing severe signs of weakness.

In recognition of this state of affairs a Governmental order was issued for the Ministry to put measures in place to arrest the appalling performances.

Chief Education Officer [ag], Mr. Marcel Hutson, said that he is confident that the measures that were implemented will be reflected when the results of the NGSA are revealed.
