As customary each year the spirit of Christmas spirit was welcomed to the populous at Rahaman’s Park last Friday, where almost 200 children received gifts from Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus at the Annual Rahaman’s Park, Christmas tree light-up.
The event saw the attendance of children from the nearby villages and featured the first light-up of the grand Christmas tree at Houston. This spectacle is a major attraction for persons using the East Bank of Demerara, especially at nights when the lights are on in all their glory.
To the amazement of the crowd was amazed, the 60-foot tree with an odd 5000 multi- coloured bulbs was lit by Minister of Business with responsibility for Tourism, Dominic Gaskin.
Minister Gaskin in brief remarks echoed to the persons assembled that we are in a season where there is a general change in attitude and behaviour, since we become kinder and nicer to each other, as well as taking into consideration the less fortunate, especially children.
It was noted that the tree was placed in an ideal spot, prime to welcoming persons to the Garden City of Georgetown.
The 60ft tree is the tallest in the Caribbean.
