Rehab Centre introduces multi-sensory stimulation and environmental therapy

Written by

The Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre has today spearheaded a day for Multi-Sensory Stimulation and Environmental Therapy at the Promenade Gardens for children utilizing our services. This is the first ever outdoor therapy session of its kind to be held in Guyana. It incorporates Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy which will greatly benefit children with disabilities by stimulating various perception areas in the brain while creating a relaxing and calming effect.

The simple pleasures and joys that children experience running, playing and enjoying a sunny day are sometimes not available for children with special needs. Due to limitations, they don’t experience or are unable to interact with their surroundings, limiting their sensory experiences.

Multi-sensory stimulation is as necessary for survival as food and water.  It is our responsibility to help every child feel included and offer them an environment where they can experience simple joys in life and enhance their sensory skills, a statement from the Centre said.
