It seems that most students have developed a habit of waiting on the very last minute to study for an exam. At that point, the last resort is cramming and in the end lack of the retention of any information after the exam. This may work for some, but others end up suffering in the long run.

Children must develop appropriate studying habits in order to keep excelling. Here are a few tips to foster some good study habits in your child:

1. Start young- It is best to instill good studying practices in children when they are younger. They will continue growing with this habit, which in turn will benefit them when exam time comes around.

2. Keep a neat work space- Sometimes a sense of order can help children to keep their thoughts streamlined. This helps them to focus while studying.

3. Experiment with timing- If your child refuses to study when he/she ought to, allow them to wait for the last minute and assess the results they obtain. Some students actually do study well under pressure so if the grades are good then a continuation of this is allowed. If however it is not or a solitary good grade is followed by ones, you must let your child know that it is necessary to give himself/ herself time to learn stuff before he’she can apply it in an exam.

4. Everybody learns differently- Although there are ways to help you child foster good study habits indefinitely, it must be noted, he/ she will have their own methods that can help them to learn faster. For some hearing the content helps, for others, just simple visual explanations can be effective. Yet there are those Kinesthetic learners who can only remember things if they were involved in some kind of touching or movement while studying. Figure out which one/s is most effective for your child and help them strengthen it.

5. Electronics- The use of electronics is a bit debatable, however persons are known o be able to foster good study practices by training their minds through the use of various app and quizmakers.

6. It’s not your job- Remember, when you child gets homework or assignments, it is not your job to do. You can provide the guidance but always remember that you cannot do it for them.
