As was scheduled, The Nestle Svelty Pink Ribbon Foundation, successfully conducted their breast cancer awareness walk yesterday, October 9th.
The walk was done to raise awareness about the topic of breast cancer as well as to raise funds for treatment. It followed through as planned, beginning at the Everest Cricket Ground, allowing participants to walk along Camp Street, on to North Road, then on to Avenue of the Republic, before returning to the place of origin, Everest. At that point, a health fair was held.
It was a complete success, seeing the likes of over 300 attendees, most of whom were attired in Nestle shirts with pink ribbons and the breast cancer awareness logo. Quite a few of the participants either were or are victims of breast cancer and sought to raise awareness of the disease. Among the participants were the Minister within the Ministry of Public Health, Karen Cummings, Miss Guyana Universe 2016, Soyini Fraser and Operations Manager of DSL, Bryan Prittipaul. The proceeds of the event will be going towards the Cancer Institute to assist with treatment and research.
October is celebrated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
