‘Sustainable Planet’ UNGA 72 to see Guyana’s participation

Guyana will be adequately represented at the 72nd Regular Session of the United Nations General Assembly [UNGA 72] which will be convened at the New York, United States UN Headquarters from September 12 – 25, 2017.

Slated to deliver an address to the UN General Assembly on September 20, is President David Granger. Elaborating on the event tomorrow will be Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carl Greenidge, at a press conference in the main conference room at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, South Road and Shiv Chanderpaul Drive, Georgetown.

UNGA 72 will be held under the theme ‘Focusing on People: striving for peace and a decent life for all on a sustainable planet’.

The President of the 72nd session of the UNGA, Miroslav LajČák, identified six overarching priorities for his tenure following his election. These include: making a difference in the lives of ordinary people; prevention and mediation for sustaining peace; migration; political momentum for SDGs and climate; human rights and equality, including equal opportunities for genders; and quality of events organised by the Presidency.

A number of events will take place in parallel to the opening of the 72nd session of the UNGA including: Global Goals Week 2017 and Climate Week NYC 2017.
