Teachers – a major asset to the education system

Ensuring that a child learns is the greatest task assigned to a teacher. As such it is to ensure that students’ performances position them to be productive citizens of society that a teacher’s very existence is dependent on.
This becomes clear each year when the results of major examinations are announced. At this juncture the country gets to hear, usually through the media, about the loaded efforts that were made to realise the outstanding performances and of measures to help improve the not so outstanding performances too. Of course the onus is on students to put their best foot forward and parental support is crucial, but paramount is the contribution of teachers to this cause.
But often times they [teachers] are left out of the equation and students are looked at as super humans who defied the odds and excelled. But teachers are usually the ones setting the ground work by tantalising sometimes a gift or awakening an understanding that some students or even their parents didn’t know they had.
In essence teachers, whether in public or private institutions, have a colossal task, that is, to impart knowledge to their students in hopes that it will help them find their way through this journey called life.
As the celebration of education month continues let us not forget all those who play a keen role in the education system from the Minister of Education down to those who are tasked with keeping the classrooms clean.
Education Month which will entail a gamut of activities promoting the importance of education was launched early this month under the theme: ‘Promoting wellness in communities through quality education.’ It is expected that continue collaboration will prevail to ensure that our system continues to produce quality students that advance the goal of nation building.
