Under the theme ‘Smarter living in the Caribbean’, Ministers of Information Communication Technology [ICT] and other ICT functionaries from across the Caribbean are currently attending a workshop at the Trinidad Hyatt Hotel.
Representing Guyana is Minister of Public Telecommunications, Mrs. Catherine Hughes. The three-day workshop will see Hughes making a presentation on behalf of Guyana during the Ninth Panel Session at the workshop which is being dubbed ‘The Internet of Things’.
This type workshop has become a regular event globally and regionally. Moreover, the ‘Internet of Things Caribbean’ is intended to strengthen cohesion among ICT leaders and the technical brains within the region.

As such the forum is one that is designed to allow the ICT officials from various territories to give situational updates on the implementation of CARICOM’s policies on information privacy and security in the context of the CARICOM goal of a Single ICT Space.
It is also intended to help develop mechanisms to ensure that Caribbean people become fully capable of utilizing ICT to improve life and living; business and trade; government; financial services; the environment and economic growth.
Representatives of CANTO and IMPACS were slated to be among the moderators. IMPACS is the Implementing Agency for Crime and Security, the nerve center for the CARICOM Region’s new multilateral crime and security management architecture. CANTO, the Caribbean Association of National Telecommunications Organisations, is the trade facilitator in the region and internationally. CANTO is also responsible for influencing policy and providing information on all aspects of the IT industry. These two moderators are both renowned in cyber security and ICT Infrastructure.
