Attracting more than 200 delegates from around the world, the University Guyana [UG] inaugural Diaspora conference got underway this morning at the Providence, East Bank Demerara, Princess/Ramada Hotel.
The opening of the Conference, which was laced with cultural presentations and a feature address by President David Granger, will continue until Friday. It is slated to culminate with yet another inaugural event for UG, an investiture ceremony, for the 10th Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ivelaw Griffith.
The investiture ceremony, which will be held at the University’s Turkeyen Campus is expected to see some 500 people in attendance.
“We will have an opportunity to have dialogue with academics, policymakers and businessmen,” said Professor Griffith of the conference which he anticipates will make way for the university to not only gain financial but support in kind to aid the further development of UG.
